Asbestos can be found in homes built prior to 1990

Here are the answers to the common questions

What is an asbestos bulk sample?
A representative sample taken of any material that is suspected of containing asbestos.

When do you collect asbestos bulk samples?
In Alberta an asbestos inventory is not required by the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Code, however asbestos containing materials must be abated prior to demolition of a building, renovation, or alteration.   

How do you collect an asbestos bulk sample?
WHS has attached a procedure to assist homeowners collect asbestos samples for testing.

How do we get the samples to WHS?
Bring the to 1636-12 Ave SW.  After hours please place the samples in the mailbox, Please include your name, email and phone number.

How soon can we get results?
Typically we can have results within 3 to 5 business days.  
For an additional fee we can have results to you the next business day.


Can WHS come to our place and perform asbestos testing?
Yes we can!  We offer various services:

Common Asbestos Containing Materials

Building exteriors
- asbestos-cement siding panels (such as Transite panels)
- asbestos-cement soffits – flat or perforated panels
- asbestos-cement roof panels – corrugated
- roofing felts and mastics
- stucco

Flooring
- vinyl asbestos tiles (VAT)
- sheet vinyl flooring (asbestos paper backing)
- mastic
- floor leveling compound

Ceilings
- t-bar ceiling tile
- asbestos-cement ceiling tile
- stippled and/or textured finishes (popcorn)
- plaster or drywall jointing materials

Walls
- plaster or drywall jointing materials

Insulation

- vermiculite / Zonolite insulation 
- steam and hot water heating supply and return lines
- domestic water supply and drain lines
- Boiler and furnace Insulation (gravity furnaces).

Asbestos can be found in any home built prior to 1990.
